Tonkawa Council of Elders
Respect Native American Traditions
The Tonkawa Council of Elders was founded in 1974 by a consortium of American Indian individuals, many of whom were tribal seniors. At that time, they were employed by the San Diego Indian Center located downtown, on Fifth and Cedar. This organization and services no longer exist. Tonkawa Council of Elders is the traditional rock of Native American wisdom for the new millinium.
Our Purpose:
The purpose of the Tonkawa Council of Elders Development Project is to improve the quality of life for American Indian Elders. Our major focus is community development.
Our goal is to provide the resources to assist all American Indian elders in a respectful, traditional manner.
To improve the quality of life for American Indian Elders we will inform and facilitate their access to services that will maintain them in their homes, as respected members of their communities and as keepers of our tribal custom and traditions.

TONKAWA MIGHTY MINUTES
December 14, 2014 Noon - 2pm

Our, Birthday Girl-Tonkawa treasurer, Jean Vigenault rode with Jerry to the Monthly meeting with her recent ‘adventures’ fresh to share. We wish her the best of another year of life with continued improvement and better future circumstances.

Attending today was: Jerry and his assistant Rachel, ‘El’Biserra, Roy, Nellie, Ben and Dennis who provided the blessing for this day. Lots of songs and laughter with feelings of comfort and joy.

Tonkawa luncheon selections were all very tasty and healthy choices that added to the experience of community: raw vegetables, candy kisses, canes, donuts, pies, sodas and sweet smiles with gifts of gloves and bandanas for the brisk season’s weather.

Thanks to Dennis For an outstanding turkey vegetable stew and both Dennis and Jerry Starnes for the Turkey with dressing, ham with red sauce. Holiday meal with all the trimmings. There were fruits and buns with real butter, many exotic and familiar pies for all to enjoy. It is a blessed day when we can gather together in fellowship and with a potluck feast and most joyous to enjoy each others’ good company.

Finally this Charger football day signaled the fall season, such as known in the San Diego, the finest climate in the Nation.

Everyone is welcome maybe we will see you next month, December 14, 2014.
