TONKAWA San Diego Elders Club

February 10, 2008 TONKAWA minutes:

We had a bakers dozen members and visitors in attendance this past Sunday. Some of the other members were busy with friends and relatives and others, no doubt, took advantage of the summer warmth of the day.

It is always nice to see new members and guests drop in and are encouraged to return. Our faithful TONKAWA members keep the cooking pots bubbling and the happy smiles ready. This is a real nice down home meeting to attend.

Our New President Violet Tunohun opened the meeting at noon and called upon the TONKAWA Treasurer Vickie Gambala for the blessing. Chicken, chicken, chicken and that is no mole! Yes, there was even chicken and mole with warm tortillas. Fried Chicken. Hot wings and extra crispy too. You could have any thing you want—especially if it is chicken. Just kidding everything was real tasty, healthy and fresh. Black olives and sliced pickles went real good with you know what. Sides of mixed vegetables, beans and a pumpkin pie rounded off the Sunday fare for fabulously fine fixings.

Veronica McCune made a fine presentation on genealogy and the Louisiana Tribes that were in the area around the time of the Lewis and Clark exploration and the Indian removal. Also there were announcements of upcoming events: Grossmont College Pow wow- Feb 23, Wellness Conference at the Town and country- March 16-20 and American Indian culture days in Balboa Park- May 10-11. Maybe we will see you and a friend (We are always recruiting Elders to be TONKWA members!). We are very pleased to enjoy the regular attendance of TONKAWA also community guests and family members.
