April 13, 2008 TONKAWA minutes:
We
enjoyed the beautiful, warm and sunny afternoon. TONKAWA President Violet Tunohun
opened the meeting before noon. Tonkawa gathered in good spirit as Verna Antonio
provided the blessing for the sixteen TONKAWA members, along with visitors this
past Sunday. Some of the other members were busy with friends and relatives
and others, no doubt, took advantage of the summer warmth of the day.
Our faithful TONKAWA members keep the cooking pots bubbling and the happy smiles ready. The weather and dishes are passionately delicious. Made with lots of love and care for a very festive luncheon: meat loaf, mashed taters and gravy, cone bread muffins, spicy hot chicken wings, pasta casserole, 3 or 4 variations of macaroni salad, avocado and romaine with balsamic vinegar dressing, corn chips with guacamole and French onion dip, bunt cake and various other yummiest.
Mary Ojos and, finally, Nellie Ruiz adjourned the meeting at 1:10 pm and will call and remind all that our next TONKAWA meeting is at noon June 8, 2008, at the Many Nations: Chet Hunt Community room, 3928 Illinois St. San Diego, CA. 92104. Remember-the month of May we will meet at Balboa Park for Culture day Pow wow on May 10 11, 2008 under the Elders shade.
ANNOUNCMENTS: American Indian culture days in Balboa Park- May 10-11 were announced. Call San Diego Indian Education for more information 1-858-627-7362.
Maybe we will see you and a friend (We are always recruiting Elders to be TONKWA members!). It is always nice to see new members and guests drop in and are encouraged to return. This is a real nice down home meeting to attend. We are also very pleased to enjoy the regular attendance of TONKAWA along with community guests and family members
